Tips So YOU Can Enjoy the Party!

  • Choose 5-6 different appetizers. Of those, 3 or 4 should be things you can make ahead of time and serve cold, room temperature, or easily reheat.
  • Plan to prepare about 10 pieces or bites per person. Ex: for a party of 6, prepare about 60 pieces. If you are making 5 appetizers, make about 12 pieces of each. Always round up so you don’t run out!
  • Plan to serve a couple dips, bowls of nuts, or a cheese platter when guests arrive.
  • Write down the menu and print out recipes in advance.
  • Try your recipes ahead of time.
  • Note any garnishes you want to include with your appetizers so they aren’t forgotten.
  • Make a shopping list a few days before the event & try to get most of the shopping out of the way early.
  • Write out a schedule of what needs to be done the day before, the day of, and right before the party.
  • Take out serving platters and table decorations the day before.

Green Bay City Band!

Well, you can tell summer is almost here! The City of Green Bay is starting to promote the City Band concerts!! For the past 111 years – no that isn't a typo, the band was founded in 1902! - the city band has entertained us every summer. Their first concert of the year is June 18th. They perform every Wednesday evening at St James Park located in downtown Green Bay at 801 S Madison St. This year looks to be great fun with special appearances over the 10 week season. Some of the guest performances we’ll see are the Green Bay Baylander Chorus, the 132nd National Guard Band, and faculty members from UWGB. They perform every Wednesday at 7:30 and benches are provided. Remember if it rains the concert will be held Thursday. And although they don’t have their own web page (they are listed under Green Bay Park and Recreation) they are on Facebook!! Enjoy!

Top 10 Movies to see in 2015

I may not be a movie critic and I definitely did not major in film, but I feel like I have seen enough movies to know what is worth the money it costs to go and see a movie nowadays. Mark your calendars and get ready for some popcorn because 2015 is a year for some awesome movies. Here is a list of the top 10 movies I recommend you go and see this year:

1. Furious 7. April 3, 2015
After the tragic loss of Paul Walker this movie might be the last movie of the Fast and the Furious franchise.

2. Avengers: Age of Ultron. May 1, 2015
This movie will likely be the biggest movie of 2015.

3. Jurassic World. June 12, 2015
This is a remake of the 1993 classic.

4. Terminator: Genisys. July 1, 2015
This could very well be the first Terminator movie since 1991 that is worth watching.

5. Minions. July 10, 2015
Who doesn't love those little Minions? This one will surely be a favorite among the kids.

6. Mission Impossible 5. July 31, 2015
Got to love Tom Cruise as the heroic Ethan Hunt.

7. Sinister 2. August 21, 2015
The first movie was probably the scariest movie I have ever seen so the second movie has a lot to live up to, but I definitely can’t wait for the release of this one.

8. Spectre. November 6, 2015
James Bond is back!

9. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. November 20, 2015
The final adventure of Katniss Everdeen. This movie is the one I am most excited about!

10. Star Wars: The Force Awakens. December 18, 2015
Will this movie be just as good as the original three or will it disappoint like the previous three prequels? Guess we will have to watch and find out.

So there you have it. Which movies are you excited to go and see?

Valentine's Day in Green Bay

I have a holiday in mind that is loved by many, and has others on the couch eating chocolate frosting. On this day more than 150 million greeting cards are sold, and more than 50 million red flowers; also more than 36 million heart shaped boxes are sold.  Getting a reservation for dinner on this night can be very difficult, as most restaurants are packed…

VALENTINE’S DAY!

Although Valentine’s Day to some has turned solely into a marketing campaign for retailers and food service providers, it can be made into a nice day! Let me tell you about a couple GREAT specials going on in our area!

Let’s start with the wonderful things you can buy before date night begins!  Schroeder’s Flowers has big, beautiful, and reasonable flower arrangements to choose from!  Edible Arrangements has every fruit you could imagine dipped in chocolate; these delicious treats don’t hurt your wallet either!

Now let’s look at some amazing restaurants in the area that are offering great deals! Ogan Restaurant, located in De Pere, has a special Valentine’s Day menu, as well as a list of specialty wines!  The Wellington is offering a five course menu with eight different entree options! Cheesecake Heaven is featuring a five course meal along with five different wines, for only $55! There are many other great food options out there to choose from!  Be sure to make your reservations ahead of time.

To finish off the night, why not relax by watching a movie at the local Marcus Cinema Theater! When purchasing tickets for a show, if you buy them on-site they are $10, but if you buy them ahead of time there’s a deal! Visit the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus to purchase tickets to any Marcus Cinema Show and pay only $8, and get a coupon for snacks!

If these Valentine’s Day gifts and activities aren't really what you’re looking for, stop in to the credit union and buy your valentine a heart to support Children’s Miracle Network!  They will be displayed all month long in our branches, and your donations help local children receive the life-saving care they need at our Children’s Hospital right here in Neenah!  What better way to beat the “overly marketed Hallmark holiday” feeling than to give a gift of hope to a young child?!

There are so many different things to do with a loved one or friends that don’t have to hurt your wallet, and it can be enjoyable!  Don’t forget to stop by HCCU today to pick up some extra cash for the day!
